Diets
For Weight Loss
Diets
for weight loss usually fail.
If
you are struggling with weight and suffering
- maybe in physical discomfort, or wrestling
with emotional pain - and you are trying
hard to diet to lose weight, then it only
adds to the frustration of the problem of
weight in the first place when the diet,
too, fails.
It
is a great idea to want to eat healthy…
Healthy
eating usually consists of such basic
components as the following:
• drinking plenty of fresh, healthy
water
• less "whites" (white sugar, white flour)
• more foods from the periphery of the
supermarket (fruits, vegetables, produce,
meats, whole grains, etc.)
• consideration for certain essential
vitamins and minerals - just one example,
for bone support
…But
you will also need to curb whatever are the
underlying
reason(s) for the problem of
overweight in the first place.
In
other words, you may need to address
"secondary benefit" or "secondary gain" of
the problem. If you eat for stress, then you
will need to find another way to deal with
the stress. Maybe you are eating for other
emotions, like happiness, connecting with
others, sadness, boredom, etc. Those are
just a couple of examples.
Once
those things are addressed properly -
usually with a qualified professional who is
highly experienced in NLP (Neurolinguistic
programming), change models, family
dynamics, communication skills, hypnosis,
and training - only then might you consider
looking at diets for weight loss. But, by
then, you likely won't need to!
Let's
assume that you have had those things taken
care of in a real way…
Then
it is useful to remember that any diet to
lose weight is not usually a good idea,
anyway.
"Diet's
don't work and they never will." -
Remington, Fisher, & Parent
We
want to adopt a strategy of incisiveness
("add to"), rather than exclusivity (taking
away). This way, you will feel far more
comforted and fulfilled, and you will also
have a greater sense of freedom in your
lifestyle choices.
Whenever
you unnecessarily restrict the mind or the
body in that way, you inherently cause
resistance. Instead, you want to "add to"
your choices.
That's
for one among many reasons not to use
dieting.
Another
reason not to use diets for weight loss is
that they damage the metabolism - every time
you lose weight, you gain back more, because
the body is trying to make up (and back to)
it's metabolic set-point.
In
other words, the body actually ends of
conserving more energy as a result of
dieting, and training you to hold on to fat!
That
is the opposite of what we are wanting to
do.
The
optimal decision to make is to address both
the desires for healthy eating (addressing
the cravings and habits, etc.), but also the
underlying reasons.
